The total project cost for the Museum of Liverpool is £72 million.
In July 2008 the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded the Museum of Liverpool a confirmed grant of £11 million. At the announcement Carole Souter, director of the HLF, said:
"The Museum of Liverpool will provide a wonderful new opportunity for people to learn more about the city and its role in British and world history. In this year when Liverpool is European Capital of Culture, we're delighted to be able to confirm our support for this ambitious project which will bring the story of the city to life."
In November 2006 we were delighted to announce a £1 million donation from the Garfield Weston Foundation towards the Museum of Liverpool. The grant is the largest gift National Museums Liverpool has ever received from a trust or foundation. The foundation have been past supporters of National Museums Liverpool and gave funding for the Weston Discovery Centre at World Museum Liverpool.
This donation followed the announcement in July 2006 that a £5 million European grant from the Merseyside Objective One programme was being made available to the Museum of Liverpool. Earlier in the year the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) announced a grant of £32.7 million to support the development of the project. This news, along with a successful planning application in December 2005, gave the museum the green light to proceed.
If you would like to support this exciting project you can contact the Development Office for further information about making a donation.
