Accessibility at National Museums Liverpool

On this website

We are working towards WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) AA standard for this website. We're aware that not all of the site currently complies but are addressing these issues. Content on legacy sites may not be up to this standard. There may also be things we've not noticed and we'd like to hear about them - please let us know.

Access keys

Most web browsers support the association of keyboard 'access keys' to jump to specific links defined on a webpage and these access keys can be used consistently to aid non mouse-driven site navigation. However the use of certain keystroke
combinations are known to be reserved in certain browser technologies. For a trial period we have associated the access key Z with our 'skip to content' jump link throughout the site. Please let us know if this helps or hinders your use of the
site.

Enlarging text

The text on this website can be enlarged using your browser (although some of our older legacy sites may not be as responsive).

Using Microsoft Internet Explorer: go to 'view' in the menu bar, then select 'text size' and then select a larger font size.

Using Firefox: go to 'view' in the menu bar, then select 'text size' and then 'increase' (or 'decrease' if required).

Using Safari: go to 'view' in the menu bar, then select 'make text bigger' (or 'make text smaller' if required).

Text only

These pages contain the same information and almost the same functionality as our other pages. They can be accessed by clicking on the 'text only' link on the top right of this page. Users with visual impairments who wish to convert pdf files into html or ASCII text documents should visit the Accessibility Resource Centre on the Adobe website.

Audio and video files

All audio files, including our podcasts, and all video files with audio are accompanied by transcripts.
If you require assistance accessing any of these audio or video files visit 'about this site' for help.

E-mailing list

Our e-mailed updates (you can register here) are available in HTML (that's with images and design features) or as Text emails (just the text, more accessible). If you are registered already and would like to change the way you receive information updates contact us here.

At our venues

The visitor information page for each venue has a section on accessibility on the gallery. It covers the facilities available in each venue, access to the building etc. This information is available to print off and take with you to the venue. If you require further information please contact the venue directly.

Also, the Disabled Go website has visited and audited several of our venues, and hopes to do the rest shortly. There is a link to these audits from the access section of the visitor information page of each venue they have visited so far.

Events for disabled visitors

We regularly feature events supported by British Sign Language. Visit our 'what's on' section to search for these.

Disability equality scheme

A draft of our Disability Equality Scheme is available on this site. It is important that members of the community comment on this so that we can improve the scheme. Any comments would be gratefully received, with details on how to contact us available with the policy.
