'HMS Wren': A record of activities

Read a transcript of this film|

This film, which you can see in the Battle of the Atlantic gallery|, recounts the experiences of Doctor Gordon Canti, Surgeon Lieutenant RNVR Medical officer aboard 'HMS Wren' (U28), from May 1943 to September 1944. 'HMS Wren' was a modified Black Swan Class Sloop, part of Captain Walker’s Second Escort Group, and played a vital role in convoy escort duties and the hunting and sinking of German U-boats in the Atlantic. Doctor Canti took many photographs during his time on 'HMS Wren', which he developed onboard in his own homemade darkroom. He put these together in an album, which he donated to the archives of Merseyside Maritime Museum in 2008.  In 2009 Doctor Canti, aged 92, was recorded looking through the album and recalling his experiences.

National Museums Liverpool would like to thank Gordon Canti and Matthew Canti for their assistance in making this film.
