The National Conservation Centre is offering people the chance to celebrate their own individual style in a fantastic fashion competition.

'Sound and Vision: Music and Fashion, photographed by Francesco Mellina, Liverpool, 1978-82' on display until 31 August 2009 at the National Conservation Centre, captures the fabulous fashions worn by the music fans inhabiting Liverpool’s music scene in the late 70s and early 80s.

The exhibition documents the amazing trends at a pivotal point when music and fashion merged to create new sounds and styles, and now the National Conservation Centre is looking for people who have their own unique look and style to be photographed and add the finishing touch to the exhibition.

The person judged to have the most unusual, quirky and individual style will have their picture displayed in the exhibition for its duration: the perfect opportunity to be part of an exhibition documenting the past’s fashion flair and prove that Liverpool still has a creative and innovative style.

Francesco Mellina will photograph all successful entrants over two sessions on Wednesday 27 May and Saturday 30 May, 1pm – 5pm. Photographs of all entrants will also appear on the National Museums Liverpool website.

Full article

A Sweet Life

Sudley House

A new exhibition gives a fascinating insight into the family life of Emily Tinne – the lady whose amazing wardrobe of clothes reflects a vanished world between 1910 and 1940.

Full article

Darwin and the Beagle

Small exhibition, plus Darwin Discovery Trail

A small exhibition called Voyage of the Beagle and the Darwin Discovery Trail fun quiz are the latest World Museum Liverpool events marking the 200th anniversary of the great scientist’s birth.

Full article

Fourmost say farewell to '08

Band perform at Merseyside Maritime Museum

Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture is drawing to a close and Merseyside Maritime Museum is marking the occasion with a special late night opening complete with free entertainment.

Full article

JM25 Visitors’ Choice Award

Winner of public vote announced

The public have made their decision and the winner of the Visitors’ Choice award for the John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize has been awarded to Julian Brain for his painting 'Special Relativity'.

Chosen solely by the public vote, Brain was also chosen by jurors as one of four runners up in the main JM25 competition and, surprisingly, is the only self-taught artist in the entire exhibition.

Lisa Bradshaw, John Moores exhibition officer said: “The public have been voting since the exhibition opened in September, and it’s been fantastic to see that they’ve chosen an artist who has risen to the challenge despite his lack of professional training.

“The themes and concepts that Julian has used in this painting are something the JM25 judges picked up on, and having been chosen for a second time is testament to the fact that his work has captured visitors’ imaginations and is something they feel they can relate to.”

Special Relativity uses a surrealistic re-ordering of a domestic scene to represent the experience of adoption, and the painting has won Julian a further £2008 in the Visitors’ Choice competition, generously donated by Rathbone Investment Management to celebrate the 2008 Capital of Culture year.

Visitors to the exhibition could vote for any one of the 40 shortlisted works chosen to be in this year’s exhibition by a panel of esteemed judges consisting of artists Jake and Dinos Chapman, art critic Sacha Craddock and painters Graham Crowley and Paul Morrison.

Full article

£11 million investment on Museum of Liverpool

Heritage Lottery Fund money confirmed

The Museum of Liverpool has been awarded a confirmed grant of £11 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Full article

<xsltStyleSheetPath>/_xslt/stylefeed.xslt</xsltStyleSheetPath>
