These sculptures of 'The Hod Carrier' and 'The Architect' were commissioned by City Architect Sir Lancelot Keay for Gerard Gardens flats, Hunter Street in the 1930s. They stood pride of place above the main entrance archways.

Gerard Gardens was a new-style tenement block with communal landings and internal playgrounds.

A model of Gerard Gardens made by former resident Ged Fagan can also be seen on display, along with highlights of Paul Sudbury's film 'Gardens of Stone' which captures the essence of life in the flats.

The sculptures were saved from destruction when the flats were demolished in 1987.

Sculptures lent by Liverpool City Council.
