'Home Entertainment' spelled out on a weather vane

Home Entertainment 4 metres (2010) by Chris Evans. Courtesy of the artist, representing galleries and Arts Council England.

The modern and contemporary artworks included in 'The Narrators' are shown throughout the gallery amongst the collection displays, including one outside on the roof. There are around 21 pieces in the exhibition which respond to the Walker’s historic collection of fine and decorative art.

The work on display is by an international group of artists including Turner Prize nominee (2009) Lucy Skaer, Northern Art Prize nominees (2013) Tatham and O'Sullivan, John Cage, Becky Beasley and Aiko Miyawaki.

'Home Entertainment', Chris Evans’ fully functioning weather vane, is perched on the Walker’s roof overlooking historic William Brown Street. With the phrase ‘Home Entertainment’ incorporated into the piece it points to Liverpool's surrounding residential and shopping areas, and questions the role of the gallery in modern society. The exhibition aims to offer a wider definition  and relationships within the permanent displays  at the gallery.

Where to go after the Walker...

To complement the exhibition, The Royal Standard, the independent Liverpool gallery, will present a group exhibition of film and video works selected from the Arts Council Collection that explore sculpture when it is experienced as a moving image. Find out more about the exhibition here.|
