Adze

A hafted stone adze with a wooden handle and fibre binding through a rectangular hole in the end of the shaft. The handle is carved with humanoid faces at each end, and a tiki (stylised human) figure with its hands on its stomach lying upside down along the shaft behind the blade end. The surface decoration is pakati (dog's-tooth notches) and haehae (grooves). The eyes are shell inlaid discs, with inlay missing from the left eye of the face behind the binding. The binding is irregular and fixed with resin or glue. The blade is probably sandstone-greywacke.
