Alabastron
51.105.313
Information
Alabastron (oil flask). Artemis and Apollo, flanking palm tree and altar. The palm tree behind the altar fixes the scene at Delos, the island sacred to Apollo as his birthplace, as there are references to a palm-tree at Delos in the Odyssey (VI, 27) and the Hymn to the Delian Apollo.
John Droop notes (notebook, 1948) that this was given to him by Sir Hermann Weber as a wedding present in 1916 along with 51.105.311 and 312.
