Angels playing musical instruments

This work shows a fragments from an altarpiece which has previously been broken up. The largest shows Christ crowning the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven. This panel and WAG 6119 show angels playing different instruments, including the organ, the fiddle, the lute, and the gittern. The angels were originally positioned at the foot of the altarpiece. The patterned hem of Mary’s robe is visible just above the angels' heads.
