Information
Part of a group of drawings by British artist and book illustrator Edward Francis Burney, depicting scenes from Greek and Roman history and mythology.
Ariadne, daughter of King Minos of Crete and the immortal wife of the wine god Dionysus, assisted Theseus in slaying the Minotaur by equiping him with a ball of thread which Theseus used to retrace his steps out of the Minotaur's labyrinth. She then fled with Theseus to the island of Naxos where he abandoned her.
