Botanical Studies

Karl Franz Gruber was the brother and student of Professor Franz Xavier Gruver (1801-1862). Both were flower painters. Four different plants are illustrated; from left to right: Helleborine orchid, Ragged Robin, two sprigs of Narrow-leaved Flax and Yellow Monkshood.. The latin name Epipactis rubra, given in the legend to the Helleborine orchid is not a recognised species. The Yellow Monkshood is also depicted with greenish, white petals rather than yellow.
