Information

A lid for a boat-shaped waka huia (treasure box), with rounded, pointed ends. All carved decoration is on the outside of the lid. The main design elements are interlocking curves across the lid and linear elements along the centre along each side. All are formed by rauponga (several parallel ridges and grooves with a notched ridge in between). The pakati (dog's tooth notches in the ridge) are quite long. May have been carved with iron tools.
