David Garrick as Richard III
WAG 1994.125
Information
Terence Parkes (1927 - 2003), better known as 'Larry', was one of the most prolific and popular of British cartoonists. He produced a series of cartoons based on famous paintings at the Walker and Lady Lever Art Galleries, satirising current events and art.
This cartoon takes the painting 'David Garrick as Richard III' by William Hogarth (WAG 634). Here the painting has had an egg thrown at it, probably by the man being ushered out by a gallery guard.
