Figure of a Baboon

Cynocephalous ape carved from steatite stone with traces of red paint and gesso. Light grey weathered to dark fawn on the surface. Animal seated with elbows on knees. Forepaws hold nose, forelegs and front missing. Possibly hieroglyphs on the back? One of the previous owners, Amy Urlin, assisted W. M. F. Petrie on his excavation of the cemetery at Abydos in 1901 and this shabti may have been aquired at this time. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Incomplete, worn, surface dirt.
