Hand of William Holman Hunt
William Holman Hunt Incorrect; Unknown Artist Currently; British School, 1910
WAG 4135
Information
Hunt (1827 - 1910) was a founder member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848. This hand cast was presented posthumously by his second wife Edith ‘in recognition of the fact that Liverpool was the first art gallery that offered a prize’ to him. A note in the cast’s history file indicates that it was made in Paris. it has also been suggested that the cast was taken by the sculptor Frederick William Pomeroy (1856 - 1924).
