Sixteen year old Lucy Morton received this gold brooch, with enamel Liver Bird, for winning the Ladies One Mile Mersey Championship in 1914. Blackpool-based Lucy went on to further swimming success, establishing the world records for the 150 yards backstroke and the 200 yards breaststroke. She won Gold in the 200m breaststroke at the 1924 Paris Olympics, becoming the first British woman to win Gold for an individual swimming event.
