
Information
Lorenzo de’ Medici (1492-1519) was ruler of Florencen and the Duke of Urbino. His daughter Catherine became Queen of France and one of the most powerful women in Europe. His son, Alessandro, became the first Duke of Florence in 1532.
Alessandro’s mother was of African descent, probably Simonetta da Collevecchio who may have once been enslaved.
