The Madonna and Child attended by saints
WAG 1995.96
Information
Here we see the Madonna and Child seated on a pedestal, flanked by two bishops: St Augustine on the left holding his attribute, a richly decorated crozier, and St Ambrose on the right.
This drawing was exhibited in 1980 at the Cini Foundation, Venice. In the accompany catalogue, No 56, the author doubts the previous Zanchi attribution and instead attributes the drawing to an artist from the Veneto region of Italy, from around 1600 - 20, and identifies the kneeling woman in the foreground as St Catherine. Prior to this, she had been described as Mary Magdalen.
