A Man, possibly St Paul, Reading from a Scroll
WAG 1995.60
Information
Giovanni Guerra was an Italian draughtsman and painter from Modena who worked mostly in Rome. This drawing was attributed to him by John Gere and Julien Stock. It was previously owned by William Roscoe (1753 - 1831) who believed it was by Bartolomeo Cesi (1556 - 1629).
Both this and WAG 1995.61 are possibly related to Guerra's 'Life of St Paul', drawings for which are held in collections in Paris, Poitiers and New York.
