Information
Bell trained at the Liverpool College of Art between 1925 and 1930, and at the Royal College of Art between 1931 and 1933. He taught part time at Kings School, Chester (1933 - 1944), Prescot Grammar School (1936 - 1939) and at the Liverpool College of Art from 1939 where he taught full-time from 1944 and was promoted to Head of Department of Fine Art in 1965.
Bell was a member of the Liverpool Academy where he was appointed President between 1957 and 1960. He exhibited with the London Group, at Liverpool, Manchester and other provincial exhibitions. After World War II he took part in documenting the Merseyside area.
The donor of this painting, Muriel Bell, is the sister of the artist.
