Information
This bust of Lever illustrates Ford’s ability to capture the characteristics of the sitter in lively manner typical of the New Sculpture movement. There is a bronze version of this piece in the Port Sunlight Museum. Busts of Lever were also made by Francis Derwent Wood and William Goscombe John. The Lady Lever Art Gallery also includes portraits of Lever by the painters Samuel Luke Fildes (1843 - 1927), George Hall Neale (1863 - 1940) and Philip Alexius De Laszlo (1869 - 1937).
Ford made a bust of Lever’s wife in the same year as a pair to this piece.
