Ocean Group: Overseas Containers Limited and Barber Blue Sea Shipping Group

OA/OCL

Information

Overseas Containers Ltd., known as OCL, was a shipping consortium formed in 1965, by the amalgamation of the container interests of P & O, the British & Commonwealth Shipping Co., the Ocean Steam Ship Co. (Blue Funnel), and Furness, Withy & Co. The Barber Blue Sea shipping group was a joint venture between Blue Funnel and the Norwegian firms Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Brostrøms. The collection contains minutes of OCL meetings and Barber Blue Sea executive committee meetings, agreements, trade reports, engineering cadet records, deck log books and other papers. The material was donated by the Ocean Steam Ship Co. (Blue Funnel) and so records that firm's involvement with OCL. Many of the records relate to both Ocean and OCL, especially the personnel records and deck log books.
