Ivory panel fragment with bas-relief decoration standing clear of plain frame. Representation of Nereus, a sea god of Greek mythology, the eldest son of Gaia (the Earth) and of her son, Pontus (the Sea). He is seated in the water, shown with a horn projecting from his head, arrows carved on his breasts, stomach and thigh. He holds a piece of fruit in his left hand; further such fruit is in a basket above at the left. Two other figures survive only in their legs: a figure wearing drapery and a horse. Reverse scored with close horizontal lines and long crosses. Damaged top right and bottom left and severely damaged centre left. The denouement of a scene composed of at least one further panel to the left.
