Pastoral Landscape

This is a copy in reverse of the painting 'Pastoral Landscape' made in 1636/7 by Claude Lorraine (1604/5 - 1682), in the private collection of the Earl Fitzwilliam. Abbott probably copied it from the 1762 engraving of the painting by Francois Vivares (1709 - 1780). Classical compositions after, or in the manner of Claude, are generally dated later in Abbott's career.
