Polperro

Information

Paterson was a Scottish artist who studied in Edinburgh and Paris. She was a member of the Society for WomenArtists and a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. This scene of Polperro in Cornwall captures early evening on the harbour. The shaded forms of the boats contrast with the mist-shrouded buildings and hills. The sketchy nature of Paterson’s brushwork reflects the influence of the Impressionists, whose work she would have seen during her time in Paris
