These objects relate to the stage career of entertainer Rasool Hamza, also known as Rasool Khan. Rasool Khan was born in the North West Frontier Province of India (now part of Pakistan) and moved to England in 1926. He worked first in London before raising enough funds to move to Sheffield where he met his wife Elsie Peters.
Rasool and Elsie moved with their seven children to Stanley Road, Liverpool in 1946. They ran various businesses including a pawnbroker's, snack bar and drapers. Rasool Hamza was a talented magician and entertainer. He honed his talents in working men's clubs before touring Europe and appearing on TV as 'Pakistan's Great Illusionist'. He died whilst performing on stage in 1955.
