Brass statue of the historical Buddha. Buddha is dressed in simple ungilded robes, with floral border decoration. Seated in yogic or meditational pose on a double lotus pedestal, right hand reaching down in earth-witnessing or bhumisparsa mudra. Pigment to hair, eyes and mouth. The World Museum Liverpool commissioned this Buddha as the chief image for a shrine. The Buddha has been consecrated and contains prayer rolls, medicinal herbs and terracotta plaques.
