Information

This watercolour painting is a costume design by George W. Harris (1978-1929) for the part of 'Saxon Warrior' in the play 'Grauch'. 'Grauch' was written in 1921 by the Yorkshire-born poet and playwrite Gordon Bottomley (1874-1948). The play was picked up by the producer Basil Dean (1888-1978), who launched it at St Martin's Theatre in London on 20th January 1924 as part of a double bill with Lascelles Abercrobie's (1881-1938) play 'Phoenix'. Harris worked closely with Dean throughout his career as an artist, producing many costume and set designs for Dean's plays.
