Scarab

49.47.477

Information

Stone scarab seal with plain back, and flat base inscribed with knots design. Pierced through the length for suspension. Surface heavily scratched, white paint on the base, chipped on one side. Old label says "Alexandretta". The catalogue card suggests this could be Alexandria but Alexandretta is the ancient name of the modern city of İskenderun in Turkey, so the object may come from there.
