Screen at Rufford Old Hall
WAG 7461
Information
Rufford Hall (now known as Rufford Old Hall) is in West Lancashire and was the seat of the Hesketh family until the 1790s. An engraving of this study appeared in Philips's 'Views of Lancashire and Cheshire'.
Rufford Hall is famous for a large carved wooden screen in the Great Hall, still intact today. This sketch appears to be a drawing of that screen, with studies of the angles which top it.
