Studio portrait of the 13th Dalai Lama seated in a dark wood European-style armchair with his right arm resting on a side table covered with a paisley shawl on top of which are two vases of flowers. The photograph was taken during the Dalai Lama's stay at Hasting House, Calcutta. He travelled there to meet the Viceroy of India, Lord Minto.
