The Three Graces

LL 3593

Information

Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia were the attendants of Venus and the embodiment of love, beauty and the spirit of generosity. The classical title elevates what is essentially a sensual study of the same nude model in three different poses. Another version of the subject was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1847, and this version can also be dated to the 1840s on stylistic grounds.
