Information

Circular calcite slab with four small pots and one central hollow tube. Identification of this type of object is still not certain. They may possibly have served a funerary/religious purpose, such as a container for oils or a models of jars or granary bins. Traditionally they have been considered to be containers for cosmetics or paints used by a scribe, such as in Charles Gatty's 1879 catalogue of the Mayer collection where he describes this object as "a stand with four small vases for paint".
