WAG 7777
Information
This painting was commissioned by the celebrated Liverpool collector Joseph Mayer (1803 - 1886). Groups of Mayer’s enamels and medieval ivories are now in the Walker Art Gallery’s collection. The picture shows his spaniels Tummis and Meary with their two puppies, grouped a little incongruously amidst a number of Mayer’s antiquities. Ansdell’s bill for the work is said to have been £20.
