EDB.2000.4.6
Information
This Vodou flag was designed for an altar dedicated to Simbi. Simbi is the name of a group of fresh water spirits invoked during healing ceremonies. They are seen as having Kongo and Amerindian origins but belong to both the Petwo and the Rada pantheons. Cemíes were benevolent spirits of the Taϊno, the indigenous Amerindian inhabitants of Haiti. In Vodou tradition ti simbi are legendary child-like figures said to live in rivers.
