Windermere

Information

This fresh, matter-of-fact view of Lake Windermere in the Lake District was started by Brown in September 1848 when he was on a walking tour. He made alterations to the picture in 1854 and 1855. The view is from the north end of Lake Windermere, looking south. In 1855, John Pollard Seddon gave Brown 'Lear and Cordelia' in exchange for 'Windermere'.
