Dementia awareness workshop for family and friends
No current dates available
Free workshops for families, friends, informal carers and community volunteers to support you in supporting your loved ones and contacts living with dementia. All House of Memories training takes place at the Museum of Liverpool, at the Pier Head.
Who can come to the workshop?
Friends and families of people living with dementia. Informal carers and community volunteers are also welcome. You can book your place via the link below.
All training takes place at Museum of Liverpool, at the Pier Head.
We have separate training for health and social care professionals, which is also free, as well as our online training package.
What should I expect from the dementia workshop for families and friends?
At the start of the workshop you will watch a series of videos featuring ‘real life’ scenarios which introduce you to our characters and their dementia journeys.
Following discussions about these scenarios, we’ll talk about the different ways in which you can support your loved ones and learn about the importance of person-centred care.
As a museum-led programme, we’ll then focus on objects, archives and life stories, and how they can be used to communicate with people.
You’ll hear about different resources and activities you can use to support your loved ones and give some of them a try. Resources covered include:
- The free My House of Memories app, which you can use at home to support communication and encourage conversations about the past.
- Memory boxes, which can be filled with objects important to the person living with dementia.
- Museum activities you can take part in, like memory walks.
Our sessions are led by an experienced museum facilitator. However we want to hear about your experiences, so we encourage you to share anecdotes and stories with the group if you’d like to.
Where is the workshop?

Host a stall at our workshops
Are you part of a local organisation, community group or non-profit organisation supporting people living with dementia?
We want to work with local organisations that support people living with dementia and those impacted by a recent dementia diagnosis by collaborating with you during our dementia awareness sessions.
The workshops, which take place at Museum of Liverpool, are designed for the family and friends of people living with dementia. Your organisation can come along to one of the events and run a stall or host a discussion with attendees to show how you can offer support. We want to ensure that people who attend our workshops leave the session with the best tools and knowledge to support their loved ones.
Interested in getting involved? Please email learning@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk or complete the stall request form.
