Maritime Archives and Library
The Maritime Archives and Library is closed to the public and will not reopen until Monday 30 March 2020 at 10.30am, due to the closure of the second floor of Merseyside Maritime Museum as we prepare the new Life on board gallery.
Staff can be contacted via email and telephone during the closure period but will only have limited access to collections.

The only known surviving first class ticket for the White Star liner Titanic is one of the top ten treasures of the Maritime Archives and Library.
The Maritime Archives and Library at Merseyside Maritime Museum houses an extensive collection of maritime books and documents spanning three centuries. These include one of the finest collections of merchant shipping records in the UK.

If you are researching maritime history or tracing your ancestors then we suggest you start by looking through our extensive online information sheets. These cover a wide range of maritime subjects as well as lots of information about the records we hold - and recommended alternative sources of information for records that are not in our collections.
Maritime Archives and Library has access to Adam Matthew Digital, primary source databases for teaching and research. Our archive collections have contributed to their ‘History’ theme.
Every aspect of Liverpool's maritime history from the early 18th-century is covered in the Maritime Archives and Library. Whilst the emphasis is on Liverpool, the coverage is national and international. You can search our collections online to find out what records we hold, although not all of these documents are available to view online.
