We send out messages of warmth to the transgender community at this difficult time and stand firmly in support of them.

Our exhibitions and programmes aim to reflect the richness of human experiences, including those of transgender individuals, who have contributed profoundly to history, culture, and society. Be it at exhibitions like April Ashley: Portrait of a Lady, Tales from the City or through education and storytelling during Trans Day of Visibility, our LGBTQ+ audio trail, or the poem commissioned for LGBTQ+ History Month by activist, actor and performer Felix Mufti on trans history and resistance; we aspire to challenge biases, celebrate diversity, and promote understanding.

We are committed to ensuring that our spaces remain welcoming and safe for everyone, regardless of gender identity. We will continue learning, evolving, representing and engaging with trans communities authentically and respectfully in our work.

We hope that transgender individuals and communities feel; seen, valued, a sense of belonging and that their stories matter at National Museums Liverpool. Together, we aim to continue challenging, educating and building a future rooted in equity and dignity for all.
