Maid's afternoon uniform

About this object

Employers were expected to supply their servants with uniforms which were appropriate for the task and for the time of day at which it was carried out. This maid’s afternoon uniform, worn for serving tea and cakes, was sold tacked together as a set. It cost one shilling and eleven pence, the equivalent of about £6 today.
