Black afternoon dress

About this object

Most of Emily Tinne’s day clothes were restrained in style, in subtle colours that were suitable for her age and social level, but sometimes she made more daring choices. The wonderful plastic buckle on this dress, with its pair of curling lizards, is clearly inspired by the Art Deco design of the period.
