On Saturday, 15 March 2025 'Hilvanando Culturas (Weaving Cultures), a 90 min stunning showcase of Indigenous clothing and costume from across all regions of Mexico comes to World Museum!
The fashion is part of the Cuerpos del Tiempo project, (funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund), Luma Creations and the Global Cultures team, in partnership with Magaly Flores. The show will be narrated in Spanish by collector Magaly Flores. Live English translation will be provided by Francisco Carrasco of Luma Creations.
Magaly Flores, Artistic, Choreographer, and Director of Colibrí Mexican Folkdance was born in Coyuca de Catalán, Guerrero, Mexico. She holds a teaching degree in Art Specialising in Dance Education from Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. She also holds a degree in Education from Edge Hill University and is a member of the International Dance Council (CID), the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), and the IIDDMAC, which researches, helps revive, promotes, and preserves the culture of many regional folk dances throughout Mexico. She has also been a passionate collector of Mexican textiles for many years.
She is a dancer of a variety of traditional Mexican dance but, faced with a search for the need to express her sense of identity, she began to experiment through the movement and sound of the shoe with the floor, a new form of expression using essential elements of her culture that are reflected in her dance work.
The show will be held in the Treasure House Theatre, and is free, but ticketed. It is also for ages 12+. There will be two shows: 11am and 14:00.
