Generation Hope: we have the power
No current dates available

The theme of this year's Earth Day is “Our Power, Our Planet”. What do you have the power to do? Come along and explore this question, make a pledge, and make tangible positive changes to your daily life that will help the planet.
Through this fun, interactive, and educational day at World Museum, we will explore the planetary emergency and how we can turn hope and awarness into individual and / or collective action. We will cover a range of issues from climate change and the decline of bees, to the impact of fast fashion. All activities will be free to take part in, and include:
Clothes swap and mending station
Bring along your old clothes and swap them for new ones! For each item you donate, you will get a token for a new item. Swapping, reusing, and repairing clothes is crucial in reducing fast fashion, so clothes swaps are a great way to support a more circular economy and update your wardrobe at the same time.
Buzzing for sustainability: beeswax wraps and handrolled candle making workshops
Take part in various workshops throughout the day led by Andrea Ku, local artist and beekeeper (please note these workshops will be 16+).
Educational talks
Enjoy a series of thought provoking talks featuring speakers such as Entomology Curator Tony Hunter, and Climiate Justice Campaigner Zamzam Ibrahim.
Displays of competition entries
We will be displaying entries from our linked competitions:
- Hope (Children's Competition)
- Awareness (Young People's competition)
- Action (Adults competition)
Want to get involved? Enter by 11 April - more information can be found on the linked pages above.
Campaigning Workshop with Zamzam Ibrahim
Our inspiring guest speaker Zamzam Ibrahim is an activist, UN Advisor, Climate Consultant, Director of IYADA, and co-founder of Somalis for Sustainability. She has spent the past decade representing students and young people advocating on various causes related to social justice, education, and the environment, and in addition to delivering a talk, will be leading a workshop on how to be a campaigner. This is a unique opportunity to learn from an accomplished young leader about how young people can use their voices to create change.
Pop ups
Great work is already happening within Liverpool and beyond - an action we can all take is spreading the word and supporting this work. Therefore, we are inviting a variety of local eco-friendly businesses, campaigns, and organisations to host pop ups to share what they do and how you can get involved.
Badge making
The perfect way for both little ones and adults to spread awareness and hope. Get inspired by our displays and activities, and create your own badge to show what's important to you.
Interactive Quizzes
Test your knowledge and learn about small swaps you can make in your day to day life, designed by our Youth Engagement Forum.
We are generation hope, so lets turn hope into action together!
This event has been developed by the Youth Engagement Forum, a group of 16-24 year olds at National Museums Liverpool. Young people are the future, and their voices must be heard. This project is part of the Fixing Our Broken Planet programme in partnership with the Natural History Museum, London.
